“3,600-Year-Old Egyptian Teenage Mummy Discovered with Preserved Bridal Attire and Jewelry”

The discovery of a special mummy encased in a coffin full of jewels by Egyptian archaeologists from the Djehuty Project was made while excavating a hill known as Drra Abul-Naga, near Luxor, Egypt.

Djehuty was a high official under the Egyptian queen Hatshepsut (1508-1458 BC), who was in charge of the treasury and public works. The mummy of a mysterious girl had been meticulously adorned with an abundance of jewelry, a reflection of her importance in the court of the chapel that was built for her.

The girl’s grave was found within a nearly intact coffin in a position that surprised archaeologists. The 3,500-year-old girl, estimated to be 15-16 years old, was 1.59 meters tall. She was laid to rest under a mound of necklaces and earrings, mostly made of carnelian beads, signifying her high status and importance in the ancient Egyptian society. The girl was adorned with jewelry, including a unique blue ceramic collar around her neck, which is a rare and valuable jewelry item.

The precise reason for her burial in this manner, and the significance of the unique blue ceramic collar, is still a subject of study and interpretation among archaeologists and Egyptologists. This remarkable discovery offers valuable insights into the material culture and societal aspects of ancient Egypt during her time.
