Georgia’s 6’8″, 340-Pound Tackle Amarius Mims Shines with 5.07-Second 40-Yard Dash at NFL Combine—But Injures Himself Before Second Attempt

Amarius Mims – a 340-pound, 6-ft-8 offensive tackle – has stunned scouts at the NFL Combine with his speed at the 40-yard dash, as he ran it in just 5.07 seconds.

The 21-year-old, Georgia native, who played for the Bulldogs for the last three years, is widely considered to be a first-round pick and among the top 20 prospects in this year’s NFL Draft, with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys. and San Francisco 49ers holding interest.

But, it appears that Mims injured himself before his second attempt, as he hopes to be available for Georgia’s pro day workout in front of NFL scouts in Athens on March 13.

‘Georgia OT Amarius Mims just told me he’s dealing with a right hamstring injury,’ Stacey Daley, of the NFL Network tweeted on Sunday, adding that ‘he doesn’t know how severe it is.

‘He wants to continue testing and competing at the combine. But he’s got ice on the hamstring now.’

Mims played three seasons at Georgia and is expected to be a top 20 overall pick in this year's draft

Mims, a Preseason All-SEC First Team selection at right tackle, played in just seven games last season. He was ruled out of Georgia’s conference opener against South Carolina with an ankle injury, which led him to miss six games and needing surgery.

He returned to the Bulldogs’ starting core against Ole Miss but reinjured his ankle early in the SEC Championship loss to Alabama, leaving the game in the first half and forcing Georgia to re-shuffle its offensive line.

Mims traveled with his teammates to Miami but was ultimately ruled out of the team’s Orange Bowl win over No. 5 Florida State.

‘Just being real, in college I’ve never had an injury that I’ve been out that long,’ Mims said in February. ‘What I learned about myself is that I’ve got heart. A lot of people could’ve been like, ”You know what, I’ll shut it down. I’ve missed six games, that’s a big majority of the year.” But I’ve learned that I can come back and play as good as I’ve been playing. I’ve got heart, man. That’s the main thing.’

In 30 games played over three seasons at Georgia, Mims only made eight starts. He is listed as the No. 5 offensive tackle for the 2024 NFL Draft by ESPN NFL Insider Field Yates. Mims is a two-time CFP national champion (2021, 2022).
