Thousands of years ago, the ancient Maya developed into one of the most influential ancient civilizations in Mesoamerica.
Stretching from Mexico to El Salvador, the mighty Maya became one of the dominant forces in the region, building great cities, trade routes, and magnificent temples and pyramids.

The Maya are famous for their hieroglyphic writing – one of the few complete writing systems in the American continent during the pre-Columbian period. As one of the oldest and most developed cultures in the Americas, the Maya are known for their architecture, art, astronomy, ecology and especially their mathematical system.
The ancient Maya lived around the southeastern region of Mexico, corresponding to the states of Yucatan, Campeche, Tabasco, Quintana Roo and eastern Chiapas, as well as in most of present-day Guatemala, Belize, western Honduras and El Salvador.
The Maya civilization developed complex art forms using both durable and non-durable materials such as wood, jade, obsidian, pottery, carved stone, stucco, and wall paintings.

The Mayans built and left behind a rich architectural legacy, making the Maya civilization one of the world’s great pre-industrial civilizations.
Maya architecture also combined hieroglyphics with various art forms, evidence of the existence of craft expertise, centralized organization, and political means to mobilize large labor forces in Maya society.

The Maya’s remarkable level of advancement has led many researchers to question: Did the ancient Maya acquire advanced knowledge of engineering, astronomy, and mathematics from another civilization?

Over the years, numerous artifacts believed to be from the ancient Mayan civilization have been unearthed in Central America. More than six years ago, a series of images of long-lost Mayan artifacts resembling spaceships, alien statues, and star maps surfaced. However, the artifacts were quickly dismissed as hoaxes.

The site of the discovery of the artifacts is located in the south-central part of the Yucatán Peninsula in southern Mexico and the remains of the important Mayan city of Calakmul, deep in the Tierras Bajas rainforest. The artifacts are believed to be ancient Mayan and a sign of alien contact.
